AI Miles Privacy Policy
AI Miles is made by Wailuku Technologies, LLC (“we”, “us”), a Hawaii limited liability company. This policy explains what information the AI Miles iPhone app uses, where it goes, and the choices you have.
1. Information that stays on your device
AI Miles records your drives so it can log mileage automatically. With your permission, the app uses:
- Precise location, including in the background, to detect drives and record routes and distance.
- Motion activity from your iPhone, to tell driving apart from walking so walking isn’t counted as mileage.
From this, the app creates and stores on your iPhone:
- Trips: routes (GPS points), start and end times, distance, and the addresses or place names where trips start and end
- Classifications you choose (Business, Personal, Other) and the subcategories you create
- Notes, expenses and saved places (such as Home or Work) that you enter
- Your conversations with the Miles assistant
- Tracking diagnostics: a technical log of how the app decided when a trip started and ended, kept for up to 7 days
We can’t see any of this. It isn’t uploaded to us, and AI Miles doesn’t sync it to any cloud service. Like other app data, it may be included in your iPhone’s own backups (iCloud or computer backups), which are controlled by your Apple account settings, not by us.
Deleted trips and conversations go to Trash and are permanently removed from the app after 7 days.
2. Information that leaves your device
Place names (Apple Maps)
To show readable names instead of coordinates, the app sends the location of a trip’s start and end points to Apple’s mapping service. Apple handles these requests under its own privacy policy. You can turn this off in Settings → Places.
Miles AI assistant (optional)
When you use the cloud version of the Miles assistant, the app sends our server:
- the text you type, plus recent messages from that conversation (up to 12 messages)
- your device’s current date, time and time zone, so the assistant understands phrases like “yesterday from 8 to 5”
- an access code that identifies your allowance of AI requests
It does not send your trips, routes, GPS points, addresses, saved places or notes. The assistant only works out what you mean (for example “Business, Uber, Tuesday 8 AM–5 PM”). Your iPhone then matches that to your trips on the device and asks you to confirm before changing anything.
Our server forwards your message to OpenAI to generate the reply. We ask OpenAI not to store the request, but OpenAI may still keep data for a limited time under its own policies, for example for abuse monitoring. Our server:
- does not log the content of your messages or the replies
- keeps a reply for up to 24 hours, only so a retried request isn’t charged twice
- keeps request counts and technical records for up to 93 days, to enforce monthly limits and prevent abuse
The app asks for your consent before the first message is sent to the cloud. If you don’t use the cloud assistant, nothing is sent and the basic on-device assistant still works.
Diagnostic files you choose to share
In Settings → Support → Diagnostics you can export a diagnostic file, for example to send us when reporting a problem. The app never sends it automatically. By default it leaves out coordinates, labels and notes. Route locations are included only if you turn that option on.
3. What we don’t do
- We don’t sell or rent your personal information.
- We don’t share your location, trips or routes with advertisers or data brokers.
- We don’t require an account, email address or phone number to use the app.
- We don’t use your trips to train AI models.
- We don’t use third-party analytics or tracking tools.
4. Your choices
- Location and motion: change or turn off access anytime in iPhone Settings → AI Miles. Choosing Manual in the app stops automatic detection.
- Place names: turn off Apple Maps lookups in Settings → Places.
- Cloud assistant: don’t enable it, or turn off cloud consent in Settings → Miles AI.
- Delete your data: delete individual trips or chats in the app, or delete the app to remove all AI Miles data from your iPhone. For requests about data on our server (AI request records), contact us below.
5. Children
AI Miles is meant for drivers and isn’t directed to children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect information from children.
6. Security
Trip data is kept in the app’s private storage on your iPhone, protected by iOS. AI access codes are stored in the iPhone Keychain. Connections to our server are encrypted (HTTPS). No system is perfectly secure, but we limit what leaves your phone to the minimum each feature needs.
7. Mileage and tax estimates
Dollar amounts in the app are estimates based on published IRS standard mileage rates. They aren’t tax advice.
8. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the effective date above. If a change affects what leaves your device, we’ll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
